Tell Your Own Story

Instead of writing a post today, I would very much like to extend an invitation to my readers. I would love to hear about some of your own experiences concerning speech disorders, whether you have one yourself or if you know someone living with one.

If you would like to submit a story, please email it to me at karmalily at gmail dot com. Please note that I do not open attachments.

One of the most entertaining professors I had in college had a speech disorder. It was kinda weird to get used to at first, but his sense of humor about it and general intelligence in the subject made everyone forget it. Interesting blog, Have fun!

Princeton professor Paul Krugman just won a Nobel prize for economics.

He's been interviewed on various shows recently, and has a stammer that he's obviously grown used to, and deals with fine.

It lends support to a core belief of mine that people with a stammer tend to be hyper-intelligent, and the speed at which their brains work causes the short circuit in their speech pattern.
FWIW, I have a stammer and my IQ is close to 150.

I have lived with a speech impediment for my whole life and I can honestly say if I could change one thing about myself it would be my speech without a doubt. I'm still only in grade 8 but words cannot describe how annoying it is to have to repeat myself so often and have to try to tell someone that contains the letter r. Every single time I talk in public it has become completely automatic to avoid that letter. I do it without thinking now and sometimes I'll be talking and I will stop when I come to a word with and r in it. Im on autopilot.

I have a fear of speaking aloud in class. When it comes to be my time to present I will be feeling so sick and I will always be shaking and on the verge of tears. I know it's normal to not like presenting in front of the class but it just seems so hard sometimes. I hate ordering food at restaurants so I have come to only eat certain foods with the fear of the waiter asking me what I want again and again.

I constantly have people look at me everywhere I go of I have to talk. this has made me shy and to the point where I only trust a few people to talk normally with. I was so surprised and overjoyed to find people who actually go through the same things as me.
